Deck of Playing Cards Time = 10 minutes

When you use page manager in Studio, a fun family game can be made in just 10 minutes! You’ll spend a lot of time with your family from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day…why not make that time fun with a unique game! Try Go Fish, “Scum,” or a unique family trivia game.

Here’s a fun “Go Fish” game for a child. Check it out here.

More Holiday Ideas...

Set of Holiday Tiles Time = 1 minute

Holiday tiles are such a fun and simple gift! Go to the Heritage Makers template gallery, search for 12×12 pages, and you’ll find an abundance of fabulous designs. Simply load one of the “tile” templates into Studio, save, and print. It’s that easy.

After you print your 12×12 scrap page, trim to fit a 6×6 tile, mod podge in place, and you’re done. If you want, you can even tie a ribbon around the tiles for a fun gift. Give one tile or a set of 4!

To see a preview of the tiles, go here.

The Strangers in the Box

This poem expresses why I am so passionate about helping people preserve their stories/photos! I hope you enjoy it as well:

The Strangers in the Box

Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I’ve often seen.
At the pictures, black and white
Faces proud, still and serene.

I wish I knew the people
These strangers in the box.
Their names and all their memories
Are lost among the socks.

I wonder what their lives were like,
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I’ll never know their ways.

If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what and when.
Those faces of my heritage
Would come to life again.

Could this become the fate
Of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories
Someday to be tossed away?

Make time to save your pictures
Seize the opportunity when it knocks
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box!

New Baby Idea!

Here is a wonderful idea submitted by consultant Heidi Arave. The best thing about decorating your home with Heritage Makers, other than the customization, is the cost! Anyone can do this!

My first time!

Well, I finally did it - this is my first blog, ever! I never thought I would do such a thing, but I guess it is time to join the 21st century!

My focus is primarily storybooking and preserving our heritage. I don't feel it is too far from my focus of the past twenty years - lactation counseling and helping new parents feel good about their new role in life.

I believe in the power of story. I believe that our children have a better sense of themselves when they know where they come from. I believe we all desire to know more about our ancestry. I believe in the awesome power of community. I believe that "photos without stories are memories lost" (by Dr. Sharon Murdoch). I believe it is a tragedy that we are losing our heritage and sense of belonging.

So, I am now happy to say I have found another new role to enjoy - that of Heritage Maker. I feel good about helping others to re-discover their own heritage as well.

I hope this blog will be useful to those who want to learn more, be inspired, and to see what is new on the horizon. And above all, I hope this is fun!
