A Passion for Preservation

Here is a great story that was shared by a heritage maker in Seattle.  I could not say it any better myself:

A Passion for Preservation

If you or someone you know is in a similar predicament, contact me.  My high-speed Kodak photo scanning service is very popular and my clients are so thrilled and relieved to have their precious memories preserved, at an affordable price, and we all hope that we don't end up 'Strangers in a Box':

 THE STRANGERS IN THE BOX

Come, look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen.
At the pictures, black and white
Faces proud, still and serene.

I wish I knew the people
These strangers in the box.
Their names and all their memories
Are lost among the socks.

I wonder what their lives were like,
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways.

If only someone had taken time
To tell who, what and when.
Those faces of my heritage
Would come to life again.

Could this become the fate
Of the pictures we take today?
The faces and the memories
Someday to be tossed away?

Make time to save your pictures
Seize the opportunity when it knocks
Or someday you and yours could be
The strangers in the box!

Free Premier Weekend!

Heritage Makers ... FREE?

Heritage Makers is offering a free Premier weekend: October 14-17. Yes, I said FREE. This means you can start your publishing account, use ALL of the Premier Art (over 45,000 pieces and growing every month), and find out why I am so excited about this company. The company will also be offering some instructional webinars on Thursday & Friday nights, and a show and share opportunity on Saturday afternoon. And, I’m positive there will be special sales for everyone joining us that weekend!

So, you ask yourself, “How do I get ready for the Heritage Makers FREE Premier Weekend?”

First, make a gift list (whether birthday, wedding, Christmas … or that very special gift that you give yourself)

Second, gather pictures together (digital or hard copy). (p.s., if you have pictures you will need scanned before then, give me a call and we can arrange for that service; if you scan your own pictures, remember to scan them at the largest resolution as you can)

What kind of projects ...
Then think about the type of projects you might be interested in:

coffee table books (depending on the size, you will need 40-60 pictures)

a deck of playing cards (up to 55 pictures; the card deck picture and 52 cards + 2 jokers)

a family cookbook (gather recipes, pictures of family gatherings eating those recipes)

wall canvases (up to 5 or 6 pictures or 1 very special picture)

a family calendar (1-3 pictures per month)

and more!

Setting up your account

Third, set up your basic account in Heritage Makers: log into http://www.makeyourownstories.com/, set up your account, watch a few of the “online classes”, if you have time, check out the Heritage Makers channel on “youtube” and watch some of the company videos.

Fourth, tell your family that you will be busy the weekend of 10/14-17 working on some of your best gift ideas yet!

Enjoy, and let me know if I can answer any questions.

New HM Tutorials

Heritage Makers is building a library of "how to" tutorials on how to use Studio. So far, the following videos have been uploaded to YouTube:

1) Create a free Heritage Makers account

2) Activating your Heritage Makers account
3) Starting a project with a template

4) Upload photos to your Studio account

5) NEW Understanding "layers" and "lock/unlock"

These are short, wonderful, and to the point!  I hope you will take advantage of the HM YouTube Channel and explore all the wonderful ways HM allows us to create our customized projects!  I love tutorials, :-)!

HM Magnet Canvas

A canvas doesn’t have to be just a canvas. You can easily turn it into another creation—a bulletin board or a magnet board.

Instructions for a bulletin board and magnet board are virtually the same. For our purposes (and because I like the idea of a magnet board better—no holes through the canvas), we are going to focus on a magnet board.
Items needed:
     A Canvas print
A magnetic metal sheet 2 inches smaller than the canvas on all sides
     Heavy-duty staple gun

Instructions:

1.Create a canvas, any size (I suggest the bigger sizes—not the 8×8 or the 8×20). Put any design and any photographs you want. Then publish and order it. Once your canvas arrives, you continue with the next steps.

2.Place the metal sheet behind the canvas. (You can get a metal sheet from a home improvement store—you may have to cut it down to size—or from a metal supply shop.

3.Staple the metal sheet into the canvas frame as you would a picture in a picture frame. You’ll want make sure the staples are close enough to the canvas to secure the metal sheet in place, but far enough away so you don’t puncture the canvas.

Once you’re finished, place the new magnet board on your wall. You now have a decorative and useful addition to your home.  Enjoy!

7 Reasons to be a Storybooker!

(Adapted from an article written by Candace May)

1. No mess! Requires no papers, embellishments, glue, pens, pictures, or trips to the store for those missing items. Sit on your couch with your laptop, while the kids watch a movie, and create all you want.

2. No need to go back through the years of scrapbook pages to fill in the story gaps you left because you didn't want to hand write the story and the computer wasn't handy. Journaling is just as fun as the rest of it now!

3. No more trips to the photo store to resize, recolor, or reprint pictures. You can do it all with the mouse. What took 3-5 pages of scrapbooking can now fit into 1 or 2 page layouts!

4. All-inclusive pricing. The cost of Premier account includes all the embellishments, alphabets, paper, etc. that you will ever need. No need to stock up on flowers, ribbons and the like. A lot less waste. And it's cheaper in the long run!

5. You don't get bored. You could get bored quite quickly with a computer program that doesn't change, or that is one dimensional that you can't learn anything new from. You will love the tutorials in Heritage Makers and the opportunities to learn new techniques and features. It keeps you hooked!

6. You can fill gaps in your traditional scrapbook with digital pictures from Heritage Makers. You can drag and drop into a template those events that perhaps didn't warrant a little extra time to scrap. You can do a page in 8 minutes with this and it looks fab!

7. It will warm your heart to make a book for your mother of her grandchildren. It will warm your heart to know that your children will have a sense of history in a storybook that will last a lifetime!

Lovely Art Canvas

I couldn't resist sharing this 20" square artist canvas.  It is just lovely and I found it in the template gallery!  Just an example of affordable home decor that doesn't even require a personal photo, and the quote can be customized to whatever you want.  This is one of my personal favorites.
